Virgin Mary Axion Esti

This wood carved icon depicts Virgin Mary as the Panagia Axion Esti, one of the most beloved and miraculous representations of the Mother of God in Orthodox Christian tradition. 

The title “Axion Esti,” meaning “It is Truly Meet,” is connected to the famous hymn revealed through angelic revelation on Mount Athos, honoring the Virgin Mary as the most blessed among all creation.

The Theotokos is portrayed tenderly holding the Christ Child upon her lap, while inclining her head toward Him in a gesture of deep maternal love and compassion. Christ is shown holding a scroll, symbolizing divine wisdom, truth, and the fulfillment of salvation. The calm and sorrowful expression of the Virgin reflects mercy, humility, and her spiritual intercession for humanity. Her deep red garments symbolize sacrifice, royalty, and divine motherhood, while the blue inner garments signify purity and heavenly grace. The Christ Child is clothed in radiant gold and blue tones, representing His divinity and eternal kingship.

The background is covered with genuine 24-karat gold leaf, carefully applied by hand. The gold used is real 24K gold.
