This icon depicts Saint Nicholas, shown in the traditional Byzantine style.
Saint Nicholas is presented frontally, blessing with his right hand while holding the Holy Gospel in his left hand, symbolizing his role as teacher of the Christian faith and protector of the faithful.
His serene and compassionate expression reflects wisdom, humility, and spiritual strength. The halo surrounding his head emphasizes his sanctity and enduring presence within the Orthodox Christian tradition.
At the upper sides of the icon, Christ and the Mother of God are depicted presenting Saint Nicholas with the Gospel Book and the bishop’s omophorion, a traditional scene in Orthodox iconography that symbolizes his divine calling and episcopal authority.
His vestments are painted in rich burgundy, white, and gold tones, highlighting both the dignity of his office and the spiritual glory granted to him by God.
The background is covered with genuine 24-karat gold leaf, carefully applied by hand. The gold used is real 24K gold. The pigments are specially prepared traditional mixtures, following the methods used in historic iconography.
These materials make the icon highly durable and resistant, allowing it to be preserved for hundreds of years, as seen in surviving ancient icons.
Each icon is handmade by skilled iconographers. Every stage of the process is completed by hand. The wooden panel is specially selected and carved by an expert woodcarver, ensuring stability and quality.
