Virgin Mary Kardiotissa

This wood carved icon depicts the Virgin Mary as the Panagia Kardiotissa, one of the most cherished images of the Mother of God in Orthodox Christian tradition. 

The Virgin Mary is shown lovingly embracing the Christ Child, while the Child rests closely against her face in a tender gesture of divine affection and spiritual unity. This sacred composition symbolizes the infinite love between the Mother of God and Christ, as well as her compassion, protection, and intercession for all the faithful.

The Virgin is portrayed in the traditional Byzantine style with a peaceful and contemplative expression that reflects humility, mercy, and maternal tenderness.
