Virgin Mary Axion Esti

This handcrafted icon depicts Virgin Mary as the Panagia Axion Esti, one of the most beloved and miraculous icons in Orthodox Christian tradition. 

The inscription “Axion Esti” meaning, “It is Truly Meet”, refers to the sacred hymn revealed through angelic revelation on Mount Athos, honoring the Virgin Mary as the most blessed among all women and the pure Mother of God.

The Theotokos is shown tenderly holding the Christ Child upon her lap while gently inclining her head toward Him in an expression of maternal love, humility, and compassion. Christ rests peacefully in her embrace, holding a scroll that symbolizes divine wisdom, truth, and salvation.
