Saint John the Forerunner

This icon depicts John the Baptist, also known as Saint John the Forerunner, shown in the traditional Byzantine style.

Saint John is portrayed with a solemn and contemplative expression, emphasizing his role as the final prophet who prepared the way for the coming of Christ. His elongated features, flowing hair, and beard symbolize his ascetic life in the wilderness, dedicated to prayer, repentance, and spiritual purity.

The saint is shown in a gesture of preaching and witness, reflecting his mission to call humanity to repentance and to announce the arrival of the Messiah. His simple garments in earthy green and warm tones represent humility, detachment from worldly life, and devotion to God. The halo surrounding his head signifies his sanctity and prophetic calling, while the balanced composition follows the timeless spiritual tradition of Byzantine iconography.

The background is covered with genuine 24-karat gold leaf, carefully applied by hand. The gold used is real 24K gold. The pigments are specially prepared traditional mixtures, following the methods used in historic iconography. These materials make the icon highly durable and resistant, allowing it to be preserved for hundreds of years, as seen in surviving ancient icons.

Each icon is authentic and handmade by skilled iconographers. Every stage of the process is completed by hand. The wooden panel is specially selected and carved by an expert woodcarver, ensuring stability and quality.
