Saint John the Theologian

Saint John the Theologian

This handcrafted icon depicts John the Apostle under the sacred title “The Theologian,” shown in the traditional Byzantine style. Saint John is portrayed holding a Gospel book and a writing instrument, symbolizing his divine inspiration and his role as the author of the Holy Gospel, the Epistles, and the Book of Revelation. His contemplative and wise expression reflects spiritual depth, divine revelation, and his intimate relationship with Christ.

The saint is dressed in flowing garments painted in deep red and soft blue tones, symbolizing divine love, heavenly wisdom, and spiritual illumination. The open Gospel book emphasizes his mission to proclaim the Word of God and his profound theological teachings concerning the divinity of Christ. His radiant halo signifies his holiness and eternal place among the beloved saints of the Church.

The background is covered with genuine 24-karat gold leaf, carefully applied by hand. The gold used is real 24K gold. The pigments are specially prepared traditional mixtures, following the methods used in historic Byzantine iconography. These traditional materials create exceptional brilliance, richness, and durability, preserving the sacred beauty of the icon for generations.

Each icon is authentic and  handmade by skilled iconographers. Every stage of the process is completed entirely by hand, according to the authentic techniques preserved in Orthodox Christian iconography for centuries. The wooden panel is specially selected and carved by an expert woodcarver, ensuring strength, stability, and outstanding craftsmanship.

These traditional methods and high-quality materials make the icon highly durable and resistant, allowing it to endure for hundreds of years, as demonstrated by surviving Byzantine icons throughout history. This sacred handcrafted icon is both a devotional treasure and a timeless work of Christian sacred art, ideal for prayer, spiritual reflection, and blessing.
